Participating in Clinical Trials for Breast Disease Treatment
New treatments for breast cancer are available because patients have been willing to take part in clinical trials. Typically new treatments are compared to current treatments. The purpose is to find the best way to fight cancer. Clinical trials may look at new ways to diagnose or prevent a disease, make current treatments better or assess whether a new treatment is safe.
We may ask our patients to participate in a clinical trial but the decision is completely the patient’s decision to make. One benefit to taking part in a clinical study, is that patients who participate receive the most current cancer care according to a very specific treatment plan.
